Brief History
1. Wagon Workshop, Guntupalli, was sanctioned in 1973.
2. Foundation stone was laid by Late Smt. Indira Gandhi, the then Prime
Minister of India on 7th April 1974 at an estimated cost
of Rs. 27 Crores.
3. The workshop was commissioned on 16th July 1976 by Shri K S Rajan, the
then General Manager, South Central Railway.
4. This workshop is situated at a distance of 12 km from the historical city of
Vijayawada and located on the banks of river Krishna.
5. It is located in the vicinity of prominent historical sites such as Kondapalli
Fort, Undavalli caves & Akkanna Madanna caves, Amaravathi.

About Us
1. One of the premier workshops of IR is designed to cater to the needs of
POH of various Broad Gauge wagons.
2. Besides serving the interests of IR with perseverance, dedication and
excellence, the workshop also overhauls wagons owned by industrial majors
such as M/s NTPC RDM, M/s Ultra-Tech Cements, M/s Vasavadatta Cement,
M/s Vedanta, M/s Andhra Sugars.
3. From a humble beginning of first batch of 5 wagons turned out on 18th
May 1976, the journey has been long and now achieved a pinnacle
of 20 wagons outturn per day.
